Man Struck By Car After Alleged Kidnap Attempt

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in San Diego County say a 14-year-old girl fought off a would-be kidnapper who was then run over by a car.

Police tell U-T San Diego that the girl and her cousin were walking home from a convenience store in National City on Monday night when a BMW driver stopped and chased them.

Sgt. Julian Villagomez says the man grappled with the 14-year-old and punched her in the face but fled when her relatives heard the noise and ran to help.

Villagomez says the man lay down in the street and was hit by a car but jumped up and ran into a Jack in the Box. The girl's relatives then blocked the door until police arrived.

The man was hospitalized but there's no word on his condition.
