FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno County man has pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in connection with a head-on crash that killed three elderly sisters and injured a fourth sister.
The Fresno Bee reports that 56-year-old Tranquilino Figueroa was arraigned from his hospital bed on Wednesday. He is charged with three counts of murder and driving with a blood-alcohol level over the state limit of .08.
Prosecutors say Figueroa had a blood-alcohol level of .15 or higher when he crashed a minivan on Saturday near Sanger into a Toyota Yaris subcompact carrying the four women.
The sisters who died have been identified as Jennie Monreal, Josephine Contreras and Delores Rodriguez, all in their 70s.
Authorities have said Ramos has a prior DUI conviction.
