REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder after he allegedly got behind the wheel drunk and killed a mother and her two sons in a crash.
The San Mateo County Times reports that 28-year-old Denis Demacedo of Sunnyvale was charged Thursday in San Mateo County Superior Court. He's being held in jail without bail.
The March 9 crash killed 50-year-old Josefa Acevedo and her sons, 23-year-old Amado Acevedo and 15-year-old Josue Osorio.
Prosecutors say Demacedo had gotten into a fender bender and was speeding away when he slammed into the Acevedo family car.
Demacedo allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.18 - more than double the legal limit.
If convicted, he faces up to 50 years to life in prison.
