SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County prosecutors say a man convicted of beating his lover to death with a rock decorated with religious symbols has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
A district attorney's statement says 23-year-old Jose Fuentes of Santa Ana received the life sentence in court Monday. In March a jury found him guilty of the first-degree murder, robbery and burglary of 47-year-old Pedro Cerecer.
Prosecutors said Fuentes had a sexual relationship with Cerecer for about a month and plotted for days before the June 2010 killing.
They say Fuentes had drinks and sex with Cerecer then waited until he was asleep before slamming the rock into his head several times. Fuentes fled in Cerecer's Toyota with his TV, credit cards, cell phone and other electronics.
