FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after being convicted of pimping a 13-year-old girl in Fresno.
The Fresno Bee reports 35-year-old Maurice Hunt was sentenced Monday by U. S. District Judge Lawrence O'Neill who says the defendant took the dignity of a young girl.
In August, jurors found Hunt guilty of six felony counts, including sex trafficking and witness tampering. Prosecutors say Hunt forced the 13-year-old runaway to have sex with men and then kept her earnings. When the girl asked to go home, authorities say Hunt beat her.
Hunt represented himself in the case and showed up in a wheelchair, wearing only underwear when he was convicted. He is the first person to be tried in Fresno on federal charges of sex trafficking of a minor.
