STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) - A Stockton man convicted of killing his girlfriend after he was found living with her rotting corpse has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Devon Epps was sentenced Monday after being convicted last month of murder, as well as murder by torture, rape and other charges.
The Stockton Record reports (http://bit.ly/X3DaUc ) that Epps was living with his girlfriend - 35-year-old Veronica Jones - when she was reported missing in the summer of 2011.
Her badly decomposed body was found when the manager of the apartment complex went to evict Epps in December of 2011.
The 37-year-old Epps had pleaded not guilty by insanity, but jurors found him guilty after two days of deliberations.
