SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man who was being arrested for battery died in custody after several officers had to help place him under arrest in Santa Barbara.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said Friday that 51-year-old James Baumann was actively resisting arrest March 23.
Baumann suffered an unspecified medical emergency as he was being received in jail and he stopped breathing.
He was transported to Cottage Hospital where he died Wednesday after being taken off of life support.
The cause of death is under investigation.
