SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Authorities have identified the homeless man who was found crushed to death by an elevator at a San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit station.
The San Francisco Medical Examiner's office on Friday said that the body of 42-year-old David Thomas was in the elevator shaft at the Montgomery Street station on March 10.
Thomas was located after a rider inside the elevator heading to the concourse heard a crunching sound, followed by a scream.
Authorities say Thomas was found dead on top of the elevator along with personal belongings that apparently included bedding. They didn't know how long Thomas had been inside the elevator.
Transit officials said crews are repairing the elevator and expect it to be back in service later this month.
