LOS ANGELES (AP) - Firefighters say a man is fighting for his life after he was rescued from underneath a train car at a North Hollywood area light rail station.

Los Angeles fire spokesman Brian Humphries says firefighters responded to a report that a man was trapped under a Metro Red Line train at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man was pulled from underneath an 82,000-pound rail car after firefighters de-energized the third rail and lifted the car.

Humphries says the man was unconscious and not breathing at times during the rescue and is now in critical condition at Cedars-Sinai hospital.

Sheriff's authorities will review surveillance tape in an effort to figure out how the man ended up on the tracks.

One firefighter suffered a head laceration while trying to rescue the man.
