LOS ANGELES (AP) - A small industrial city under investigation
for paying its officials huge salaries could be taken over by the
city of Los Angeles under a proposal being floated by a Los Angeles
City Council member.
Councilwoman Janice Hahn introduced a motion Wednesday calling
on Los Angeles' chief legislative analyst to look into the
feasibility of annexing Vernon. Her motion was forwarded to the
city's land use and planning committee.
Vernon, a city of only about 100 residents, is the target of
corruption investigations by the state attorney general and county
district attorney.
Hahn questions whether Vernon's City Council and administrators
are operating as a legitimate government agency.
