BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - A Los Angeles police officer has been killed and another was critically injured when their cruiser was struck by a big rig at a Beverly Hills intersection.
LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera says the collision occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Friday at Robert Lane and Loma Vista Drive, in a residential area of the city.
She says a male officer was declared dead at the scene. A female officer was hospitalized in critical condition. Both were assigned to the Hollywood division. Their names have not been released.
LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith tells KNX news radio the driver of the big rig is also in critical condition.
Herrera says initial reports say the truck driver may have lost control before his vehicle plowed into the cruiser.
