LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles woman charged with drowning her two young daughters in a bathtub has killed herself in jail.
Coroner's spokeswoman Cheryl MacWillie said Wednesday that 33-year-old Lorna Valle was found dead Feb. 23 at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.
The death was ruled a suicide, and the cause was asphyxia. MacWillie says Valle was found with a plastic bag over her head.
Valle faced two counts of murder in the deaths of 1-year-old Lindsay and 5-year-old Marian.
Their father, Jose Humberto Taque, said his wife bought the girls teddy bears and balloons for Valentine's Day 2012, the day before the girls were submerged in a tub. Lindsay died later that day; Marian died later that month.
Taque said Valle was beset with anxiety and taking anti-depressants.
