LOS ANGELES (AP) - An attorney representing the Los Angeles Unified School District says he is working to settle lawsuits filed by dozens of victims of alleged sexual misconduct by a former third-grade teacher.
Wednesday's announcement by General Counsel David Holmquist comes as two attorneys are preparing a press conference to announce a lawsuit by four more alleged victims of Mark Berndt, who was arrested in January on lewdness charges.
Berndt has pleaded not guilty to the charges that allege he fed semen-laced cookies to numerous Miramonte Elementary School students over five years in what he called "tasting games."
Officials said the school district is already facing three lawsuits filed by 33 current and former students and 11 parents. More than 150 other students and parents have filed legal claims.
