MARTINEZ, Calif. (AP) - Closing arguments have concluded at the trial of two of the men charged with gang raping a 16-year-old girl at a Northern California high school.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that two juries on Monday will begin deliberating the case against Marcelles Peter and Jose Montano, who are accused of taking part in the attack that left the girl unconscious and near death.
The 2009 assault at Richmond High School has attracted national attention.
Peter and Montano are among six people accused of raping the victim. Authorities say she was beaten, robbed and sexually abused over two hours while as many as 20 people watched.
In closing arguments, defense attorneys sought to downplay the defendants' role in the attack. They each face charges that include rape, forced oral copulation and penetration with a foreign object
