LOYALTON, CA - Officials are investigating how the "Historic" Loyalton Hotel caught fire early Saturday morning.
Officials with the Sierra County Sheriff's Office say the old and abandoned hotel, located at 605 Main Street, caught fire on Saturday, December 14, 2013, around 2:20 a.m.
The Loyalton Volunteer Fire Department was on scene within 15 minutes, according to an official with the Sierra County Sheriff's Office. Officials say Loyalton Fire requested mutual aid from the Sierraville, Beckwourth and Sierra Valley Volunteer Fire Departments.
Officials tell KOLO 8 News Now several surrounding buildings sustained minor damage due to the extreme heat of the fire. Damage included broken and cracked windows, damaged sliding and a slightly melted automated teller machine.
The Loyalton Hotel was severely damaged by the fire, the only thing left remaining were its concrete walls, according to the official.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
