SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Ana firefighters wearing hazmat suits had to climb over vegetation and trash piled 5 feet high to get to a yard where a woman died in a chair amid debris with a kitten on her lap.
Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi tells The Orange County Register the woman in her 70s was pronounced dead in her yard on south Rosewood Avenue Tuesday night and no foul play is suspected.
Animal control officers searched for cats Wednesday at three homes owned by the woman. They found two dogs and more than 50 cats that will have to be trapped.
The woman was apparently living in her car because the house and yard were so full. It took hours to clear a path to remove her body.
