REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - San Mateo County authorities are looking for a person they're describing as a high-risk sex offender who walked away from a Redwood City mental health facility.

Sheriff's Lt. Larry Schumaker says Derrick Sanders was discovered missing from the Cordilleras Mental Health Facility around 4 a.m. Friday.

It's believed Schumaker may have left the locked facility by an elevator shaft.

Officials say the 34-year-old Sanders is a parolee with a history of violence and sex and weapons offenses.
