SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The board overseeing California's efforts to establish an insurance marketplace to provide affordable health care is considering adopting its formal operational blueprint.
The decision, if approved during a Wednesday meeting, would set off a sprint toward open enrollment, which will start in less than a year.
The governor's office is expected to formally approve the plan and forward it to the Obama administration on Friday. That is the deadline for states to notify the federal government about whether they plan to establish health care exchanges.
The deadline for states to submit a detailed operational plan, as California is doing, has been extended to mid-December.
Peter Lee, the board's executive director, said California does not need the extra time.
