FREMONT, Calif. (AP) - A Fremont man is in custody on suspicion of trying to hang his girlfriend from a backyard tree.
According to an Alameda County jail website, 31-year-old Daniel Howard is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, two days after his arrest. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
Police say they found Howard Sunday evening standing behind his girlfriend, who was tied to a tree with a rope fashioned as a noose around her neck. Her hands were tied behind her back.
Howard was allegedly continuing to wrap the rope around her neck.
Police tell the San Jose Mercury News officers caught the woman when he pushed her toward an embankment.
Police went to the home after receiving a call from a woman who said her boyfriend had tied her up.
