TEHACHAPI, Calif. (AP) - A freight train has gone off the track in a rural area of Kern County, sending one car tumbling down a snowy embankment.
Sheriff's spokesman Brett Grassi says nobody was hurt in the derailment early Tuesday in the Golden Hills area west of Tehachapi.
He says several cars carrying containers packed with auto parts went off the tracks, but only one slid down the embankment.
Investigators will try to determine whether high winds or ice or excessive speed contributed to the derailment.
The rail lines in the area serve primarily freight trains.
