REDDING, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a teenage girl and forcing her into prostitution for more than a month.
Redding Police Sgt. Todd Cogle said in a statement Thursday that 25-year-old Melvin Derrell Baldwin-Green Jr. was arrested Wednesday night after investigators located him by responding to an Internet escort ad and arranging an appointment with an adult woman he was pimping.
Cogle says Baldwin-Green came to the police's attention on April 17 when a 16-year-old girl reported that she had been held by him inside an apartment against her will and had managed to escape.
The girl's name is being withheld because of her age and victim status.
Baldwin-Green was booked on charges of kidnapping, human trafficking of a minor, and other charges. He is being held in lieu of one million dollars bail.
