Five Held in Shooting of Oakland Officer

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Oakland police say five men are now in custody in connection with the shooting of an undercover police officer.

Officer Johnna Watson said Tuesday that two of those arrested are suspected gang members possibly linked to Monday night's shooting.

Chief Howard Jordan said that a veteran plainclothes detective is recuperating after he suffered a gunshot wound in his arm while on a stakeout operation in East Oakland.

The chief said the undercover officer was not able to return fire. His name has not been released.

The shooting has sparked an ongoing manhunt as police arrested one man Monday night and four others have been taken into custody since early Tuesday. Several guns have been seized as well.

The wounded officer was investigating a shooting in the area that left a man critically wounded on Sunday. No arrests have been made in that case.
