SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - California Highway Patrol officials say a small brushfire west of the Newhall Pass has forced the closure of two southbound Interstate 5 lanes on a busy summer travel day.
Los Angeles County Fire officials say the fire is holding at 9 acres, and report good progress from their ground crews and aerial water drops.
The fire is near Interstate 5 between the Calgrove exit and the State Route 14 junction.
Traffic is reported to be slow in both directions, with lane closures to blame in southbound traffic and looky-loos to blame for northbound traffic.
The section of Interstate 5 affected, about 25 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, is a major artery for traffic between Los Angeles and the Central Valley.
