TURLOCK, Calif. (AP) - A father and son have been charged with a hate crime in connection with an attack on a black woman outside a Central California bar.
The Modesto Bee reports that 54-year-old Eddie Taylor and his 25-year-old son, Eddie Taylor II, appeared in court on Thursday on charges of battery causing serious bodily injury, assault likely to produce great bodily injury and a special allegation of committing a hate crime.
They are accused of using racial epithets while beating the woman unconscious around 2 a.m. on Dec. 23 outside a bar in downtown Turlock.
The elder Taylor pleaded not guilty. The Bee reports that his son did not enter a plea because he had not retained an attorney. Both men are free, having posted bail set at $50,000.
