Fallen Power Line Closes LA-Area Freeway

COMMERCE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have reopened a major Southern California freeway after a downed power line across lanes backed up traffic for miles.

The low-hanging line was reported at about 7:15 a.m. Monday on Interstate 710 in the city of Commerce. The line was hit by or snagged a big-rig truck but no injuries were reported.

The line closed both sides of the freeway, which is a major truck route to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Many drivers even left their cars to snap photos of the incident.

The line was removed and traffic resumed more than an hour later.
