OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Police say a downed power line in Oakland electrocuted one man and critically injured a second.
The Oakland Police Department said that officers received a call at 11:35 p.m. Friday reporting gunshots in the area of Birch Street and 89th Avenue.
At the location, officers say they found two men who were unresponsive and the downed power line lying between them. PG&E responded to the scene, and turned off power to the surrounding area.
Paramedics performed medical assistance on the two men. Police say 19-year-old Jermaine Tarver was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and 19-year-old Tresylian Redd remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Officers say it's unclear what caused the power line to fall, and the investigation is ongoing.
