Teams Recover Body of Teen Who Died While Swimming in Emerald Bay

UPDATE, Saturday, 12:15pm:
RENO, Nev. -- El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) Sgt. Matthew Underhill tells KOLO 8 News Now teams have recovered the body of the teenager who drowned while swimming in Emerald Bay Friday.

ECSO officials say they were called after 3pm Friday about reports of a possible drowning on the south side of Emerald Bay. Parents in a rental boat said their 17-year-old son was swimming from the boat to Fannette Island when he went under and never came up. They said the boat was only about 25 yards from the island at the time.

The EDSO Dive Team and a California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopter crew searched for the teen from then until dark Friday and resumed the search Saturday morning. They found his body after 9am in about 72 feet of water.

His family members identified him as Jabon Lamar Green. The official cause of death is still under investigation.

RENO, Nev. -- Personnel from multiple agencies are searching for a juvenile who went under while swimming in Emerald Bay and hasn't been seen since.

An El Dorado County Sheriff's Office official says a family was boating in water 80 to 150 feet deep at about 1pm Friday afternoon. Children were swimming around the boat when one juvenile went under the water and never resurfaced. Officials are operating under the assumption the child has died.

In addition to the El Dorado County Dive Team, the Coast Guard and the California Highway Patrol are helping in the recovery operation.
