SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A San Jose police detective who investigated sexual assault cases has been arrested on suspicion of possessing sexually explicit photos of an underage girl.
The San Francisco Chronicle says 33-year-old Anthony Fregger turned himself in Thursday night. Prosecutors have charged him with two felonies: soliciting the photos from the girl and with possessing them.
Fregger was an eight-year police veteran and worked in the Sexual Assaults Investigation Unit for the past three years.
Prosecutors contend he contacted the girl online in 2010 when she was 16 and the next year asked her for explicit photos. Authorities say there's no indication they had a physical relationship.
He's been placed on administrative leave.
Fregger couldn't be reached for comment Friday. The Associated Press couldn't find a public phone number for him.
