SAN RAMON, Calif. (AP) - Two people are dead after a fiery crash on an interstate highway in San Ramon where state transportation workers had blocked lanes.
There were no injuries to California Department of Transportation workers in the early Sunday morning crash.
The San Francisco Chronicle says Caltrans had set up cones leaving only the fast lane open on southbound Interstate 680 when two vehicles collided.
The California Highway Patrol says a Nissan Maxima rear-ended a BMW, causing both vehicles to spin out of control and cross into the Caltrans work zone.
The Nissan hit a forklift and burst into flames, trapping the driver. The BMW hit a Caltrans pickup truck, killing a passenger and critically injuring the driver.
