SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Renaming San Francisco International Airport after slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk may not cost as much as airport officials had estimated.
That's according to a new report from the city's Budget and Legislative Analyst's Office.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the report says replacing highway signs to reflect the new name would cost $720,000, far below the airport's $3.2 million projection.
If only the signature name sign on the International Terminal is changed, the report says the project could be completed for as little as $355,000.
Airport spokesman Doug Yakel told The Associated Press on Thursday the airport's figure was just an estimate, and officials were attempting to capture all the potential costs of a name change.
Legislation to rename the airport is set to appear before a committee of the city's Board of Supervisors on April 4.
