SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) - A former neighbor of convicted California serial murderer Joseph Naso has testified that he tried to rape her decades ago, a charge Naso has vehemently denied.

The Marin Independent Journal reports that Carolyn Kasprik testified on Tuesday during a hearing to determine whether the 79-year-old Naso receives the death penalty.

Naso was convicted of killing four women in Northern California in the 1970s and 1990s. All four had alliterative names: Roxene Roggasch, Carmen Colon, Pamela Parsons and Tracy Tafoya.

Kasprik said Naso's attack occurred when she lived in Piedmont, and he was having marital troubles. She said she managed to escape.

Naso, who is representing himself, said Kasprik posed for photographs willingly. He accused her of perjury.

Prosecutors are expected to wrap up their portion of the death penalty phase on Friday.
