LOS ANGELES (AP) - California medical authorities want to suspend or revoke the license of an Orange County pain doctor, saying he negligently prescribed powerful narcotics to three patients who died of overdoses.
The state Medical Board alleged in a complaint disclosed Friday that Dr. Van H. Vu failed to address signs of trouble and continued prescribing pain drugs - sometimes in higher doses and dangerous combinations - to the patients.
A Los Angeles Times investigation in 2012 linked Vu to 17 patient overdose deaths.
A board official declined to say whether additional patient deaths were being investigated.
A call after business hours to Vu's office went unanswered.
He previously told the Times that he tries his best to care for patients, but can't control what they do once they leave his office.
