CHICO, Calif. (AP) - A Chico doctor and his nurse wife are being held on suspicion of murder, felony child endangerment and other charges after their two-year-old adopted son died after suffering head and brain injuries.
The Chico Enterprise Record reported that 46-year-old James Yhip, a cardiologist, and his wife Edelyn Yhip were arrested Wednesday by the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
The mother called in April to report the boy as unresponsive, and the child died the next day from blunt force trauma, said sheriff's Sgt. Jason Hail.
Butte County prosecutors said an investigation found that the parents abused the boy, and believe the 43-year-old Edelyn was responsible for the fatal injuries.
The Yhips work at Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
The father's bail was $1.05 million, the mother's $2.05 million.
