LOS ANGELES (AP) - The sequel to last year's Carmageddon hits Los Angeles commuters Saturday morning when authorities close 10 miles of one of the world's busiest freeways to rebuild a bridge.

For weeks transportation officials have been warning motorists to stay away from the segment of Interstate 405 that will be shuttered through mountainous Sepulveda Pass for the entire weekend.

If they don't, officials warn, a traffic jam big enough to gridlock the entire city could result.

Affected freeway on- and off-ramps will begin closing at 7 p.m. Friday.

At a minute past midnight the entire freeway will shut down.

It isn't scheduled to reopen until 6 a.m. Monday, just ahead of the morning traffic rush.

During a similar closure last year commuters stayed away from the freeway in droves and nothing happened.
