SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (AP) - A 12-year-old Southern California boy behind the wheel of the family car has led deputies on a chase that ended with a crash and the car bursting into flames.
Orange County sheriff's investigators say the boy ran from the car and was found hiding in bushes near the Dana Point harbor.
He was turned over to his parents. Investigators say the case will be referred to the district attorney's office for possible charges.
City News Service says a deputy saw the Chevrolet Aveo traveling recklessly without its lights on in San Juan Capistrano early Wednesday.
The driver refused to pull over and the chase was on.
The car slammed into a tree in Dana Point and the young driver got out just as the car burst into flames.
