OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A San Diego County couple awaiting trial on charges they enslaved their 12-year-old niece and forced her to have sex with her uncle and other men have pleaded guilty to several counts.

City News Service reports 45-year-old Marcial Hernandez admitted Tuesday to aggravated sexual assault and lewd acts on a child. He'll be sentenced to 23 years-to-life in prison May 20.

His wife, 43-year-old Inez Garcia, pleaded guilty to three lewd-acts counts and will be sentenced to 20 years.

They were awaiting trial on 26 felony counts apiece and faced far longer possible sentences.

The niece, now 24, told authorities she was brought to the U.S. from Mexico when she was 12. She says she was beaten if she didn't obey orders to cook, clean, or have sex with men.
