SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard crews teamed up to rescue three people from the waters of Suisun Bay after their catamaran capsized Saturday evening.
The CHP sent a helicopter to the area after getting a call from the Coast Guard around 6:45 p.m. that three people were in the water near Ryer Island.
CHP spokesman Officer Shaun Bouyea says after searching for about 30 minutes, the helicopter crew spotted the overturned boat with one person on it about two miles north of where it had been reported.
The helicopter crew airlifted the person off the boat, while directing a Coast Guard rescue boat to the two other people who were wearing life jackets, but were drifting away.
All three were taken to local hospitals because of the nearly 45 minutes they had spent in the water.
Their names and extent of their injuries have not been released.
