LOS ANGELES (AP) - San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man for possessing stolen property after he allegedly tried to rob a home in Joshua Tree while dressed in women's clothing, wearing a mask and wielding a samurai sword.
Authorities say 37-year-old Maurice Lewis of Joshua Tree was arrested Monday after donning his disguise and walking 150 yards from his vehicle through the desert to the backyard of a home, where he set off a motion alarm.
The man living there, frustrated at eight recent thefts, confronted Lewis with a 12-gauge shotgun. He fired a warning shot. Lewis fled, losing both his shoes.
Deputies later found Lewis at home with cactus and other injuries on his feet. They also found stolen property belonging to the man whose home he allegedly visited.
