THERMAL, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says a bicyclist taking part in the Tour de Palm Springs has died after being hit by a vehicle.
Officer Mike Radford tells The Desert Sun (http://mydesert.co/1lg8IDW ) that the 55-year-old Alta Loma woman rode into the path of a Dodge truck along the route in Thermal and was thrown from her bicycle just after noon Saturday.
Radford says it wasn't a hit-and-run and the driver wasn't arrested.
The police agency says the woman was taken to a hospital in nearby Indio, where she was later pronounced dead. She wasn't identified.
The agency says the roads aren't closed to vehicles during the ride.
According to the event website, the 100-mile ride runs from Palm Springs throughout the Coachella Valley and back and raises money for local nonprofits.
