DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - An autopsy by the Sacramento County Coroner's has concluded that a 5-year-old girl found in her mother's car trunk died from drowning.
The Sacramento Bee reports the Sept. 26 death of Tatiana Alexia Rose Garcia was classified as a homicide.
The girl's mother, 29-year-old Aquelin Crystal Talamantes of Davis, has pleaded not guilty to murder and assault in connection to the death.
The girl's nearly lifeless body was discovered after Talamantes drove to a relative's apartment, and the relative became concerned that she showed up with her 4-year-old son but not her daughter.
Officers and bystanders tried to resuscitate her, but the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.
