SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say San Jose City College is on lockdown and police are conducting room to room searches after a report this afternoon of a gunman on campus.

San Jose City College police community service officer Pete Luna says college police officers and San Jose police officers were trying to locate a person who was reported to have a gun on campus, but that there have been no reports of any gunfire.

College chancellor Rita Cepeda told television station KTVU that the search was focused on the tech and science centers of the school, but that there was no confirmation of a gunman.

Officials say students and faculty are being told to remain on campus, while no others are being allowed to enter the campus. The lockdown started around 4:30 p.m. local time.

Television live shots show police massed outside school buildings, while other officers, with their guns drawn, searched the campus.
