ESCONDIDO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have made an arrest as they investigate the theft of computer equipment containing personal information on 5,000 San Diego County health care patients.
U-T San Diego says authorities on Friday arrested 24-year-old Jasmine Baker of Vista on suspicion of possessing stolen property. She remains jailed.
Authorities say a company laptop and two flash drives were stolen in February from the car of a Palomar Health employee, who'd taken them home to do work.
Palomar, which operates two local hospitals, says the drives contained patients' personal information, including names, diagnoses, birthdates and 36 Medicare ID numbers - but no financial information.
Authorities say they recovered the computer last week and seized two flash drives from Baker's home.
Palomar says there are no reports of the stolen data being used.
