Armed Robbers Take Collection at LA Megachurch

VAN NUYS, Calif. (AP) - Police say they're searching for two masked robbers who held up workers at gunpoint and stole the collection plate from a Los Angeles megachurch.

The Los Angeles Daily News reports Monday's robbery happened at about 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot at The Church on the Way, and escaped with an undisclosed sum.

Detective Glenn O'Shea says the theft took moments, just as workers were taking the weekend's collections to the bank.

Ricky Temple, pastor of the church with thousands of congregants in Van Nuys, said the robbery was a prime example of why churches are needed.
