A particularly bad outbreak of toxic algae in the San Joaquin-Sacramento River delta is keeping water lovers on land.
Tests in the west delta shows there was an algae bloom last month intense enough to cause severe rashes, gastrointestinal problems and potentially long-term complications in people.
Although algae blooms are common in the delta during the summer, the state Department of Water Resources indicates that this was a particularly bad year.
