Officials from San Diego Gas and Electric declared a power emergency today and urged residents to cut power usage.
Spokesman Peter Hidalgo says demand hit an all-time high and if it keeps growing, rolling blackouts may be introduced.
The company provides power to all of San Diego County and parts of Orange County.
Record demand comes as the area continues to sweat out a days-old heat wave.
About 30-thousand homes in the region experienced power outages,
but Hidalgo says most had their power restored by this afternoon.
Hidalgo says tomorrow could be crunch time, when businesses return to work and crank up the A-C in an attempt to cool stuffy buildings.
