A Burlingame woman faces a felony count of child endangerment for allegedly leaving her two-year-old son in the car with only a two-inch gap in the window while temperatures inside climbed to 125 degrees.
The toddler was unharmed after passersby heard the boy crying and was able to reach inside and free him from his car seat.
Thirty-two-year-old Barbara Stepaniuk has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Stepaniuk told authorities she left the child in the car while she dashed into a grocery store for about 20 minutes.
Police say that while the outside temperature was 92 degrees, medics who arrived at the scene to examine the toddler measured the temperature inside the car to be 125 degrees.
If convicted, Stepaniuk could face up to six years in prison.
