Fire Breaks Out In San Bernardino Forest

A lightning strike from a summer storm is suspected of sparking a wildfire in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Spokeswoman Kathy Johansson says the fire started at about 12:30
p.m. yesterday and has been charring timber on steep slopes at the
east end of Big Bear Lake -- a reservoir 40 miles northeast of San
Bernardino.

The 105-acre fire is 5 percent contained.

No evacuations have been ordered, but a five-mile stretch of Highway 18 is closed.

Johansson says no injuries have been reported and no structures have been burnt.

About 300 firefighters were on the scene along with water-dropping helicopters.
