San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
The mayor lent Clinton his support during her visit this afternoon to the Golden Gate Park construction site of the California Academy of Sciences.
Newsom's backing gives Clinton additional credibility in one of the nation's most liberal cities.
In return, Newsom has signed on as one of 12 national co-chairs of the Clinton campaign.
Clinton already has the support of Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, another campaign co-chair, as well as Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Dianne Feinstein, California's senior U.S. senator.
