SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) - Santa Cruz police are holding a 20-year-old man suspected of fatally stabbing an Arizona teenager at a beach party.
Mateo Tiago Marquis of Live Oak turned himself in at the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's office yesterday.
Marquis is suspected of stabbing 17-year-old Tom Paz of Phoenix and three others during a fight at a beach bonfire Monday night.
Paz was in town to celebrate his cousin's high school graduation. He died of stab wounds at a Santa Cruz hospital on Tuesday morning.
Police say the fight may have been caused by a dispute over gang territory.
Marquis is being held on one million dollar bail and is scheduled to be arraigned next week.
