LAYTONVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Officials say eight firefighters who suffered burns while battling a wildfire in Northern California have been taken to the hospital.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Capt. Carlos Guerrero said Saturday that the injured firefighters are in stable condition after being airlifted to the burn center at the University of California, Davis for treatment.
Officials say three firefighters from Santa Clara County and five inmate firefighters were burned fighting a blaze in Mendocino County late Friday night.
CalFire spokeswoman Lynne Tolmachoff says no details are immediately available on how they were injured.
Officials say an evacuation order is has been issued for the fire, which is threatening about 35 homes.
The blaze, started by lightning July 30, has charred more than 11 square miles.
